KATIE @ MAJOR MODEL MANAGEMENT (NEW YORK)
*Drumroll* I present to you: my first shoot in New York!
I'm super excited and stoked to share these new images that I shot last week with Major's Katie on an overcast Saturday morning. This was my first ever shoot in New York, and also my first one with Major, so I was incredibly nervous yet eager to get my camera ready and start snapping.
In the past, I've organised a few shoots with agency models, but I find that most girls from agencies usually forget about time and punctuality (and so more often than not I'm forced to cancel the whole shoot). Turning this trend a full 180, Katie showed up early and I was greeted by a lovely girl with a shy smile and aqua blue eyes. In less than 10 minutes she slipped into the Karen Millen dress, put on her heels and was ready to head out for our shoot - talk about efficiency!
As we went out and started trying out different locations, we experimented a few shots on 6th Avenue, then walked around the block for the rest of the locations. Katie was able to come up with a huge variety of movements and poses for even the most normal and boring of backdrops. Literally I just had to tell her or show her what I wanted, and she would deliver.
We shot two outfits in total (this dress from Karen Millen, and an outfit from Club Monaco). It started raining when we shot the second outfit so the photos weren't as great - I'm still contemplating if I should post that set of pics.
New York is a truly magical place. I've been here countless of times but still discover something new each and every time. To be honest, Alicia's "Empire State of Mind" holds a lot of truth to it. Being in this city really empowers me and inspires me to work towards my goals (at this point I'm starting to sound like an American immigration advert - please excuse me).
I did this shoot at 14th Street on 6th Avenue, which is a relatively quiet Avenue for Downtown and boasts amazing views of both One World Trade Center and the Empire State Building. For those who aren't too familiar with NYC, Manhattan can be split into Uptown, Midtown and Downtown. Uptown is the suburban residential areas and Central Park is the main focus here. Midtown is where Times Square, Rockefeller Center and most of the other tourist attractions are located, the traffic here is best to be avoided. Last but not least is Downtown (my favorite) where you can find One WTC, SOHO/NOHO, Chinatown and Little Italy, and all the hipster cafés and shops you see on Tumblr. You can take a look at some of the places I've been to on my Instagram.
I had a really fun time and thoroughly enjoyed my first shoot in New York. In Hong Kong, a shoot on the streets like this would get a lot of attention from passersby, but for this shoot with Katie, it seemed that New Yorkers barely even noticed us! Hope you all like these photos!
