FIVE REASONS WHY I LOVE ISLAND SHANGRI-LA
I'm sure those of you who follow me on Instagram will notice that I'm always at one of the Shangri-Las in Hong Kong for afternoon tea, or one of my shoots. I often get asked "Why are you always at Shang?" Well, simply because Shangri-La is like my second home, and below are top five reasons why:
Best. Service. Ever. There's something about Shangri-La's people that just make every stay special and unique. From the moment you enter the lobby, to being greeted by anyone working in the lobby, to the staff helping you with check-in and during every minute of your stay in case you need anything - Shangri-La is there for you. Never have I experienced such personal and sincere service and received such genuine smiles from every member of staff. Honestly, walking into Island Shangri-La feels just like walking back home.
2. Rooms with a view
Look at that view. I mean, just look at that. Where else in Hong Kong are you supposed to find such a beautiful view of both the HK Island skyline and the Kowloon side? And even if you're in a Peak View Room, you'll get an amazing view of little residential and colonial buildings hidden in between all the greenery. Head up to the outdoor garden terrace next to the Horizon Club on the 56th floor and you can enjoy a relaxing afternoon while gazing over Asia's World City.
The food here is top-notch, and even the menu makes me drool. During my previous stays and this one, I've been to all the restaurants and lounges on offer and here's where to go for what: head to Petrus for the best view of HK and a divine French dining experience; try Café TOO if you're looking for a wide selection of food to satisfy even the most picky food-lovers; drop by Waterside Terrace for a quick bite next to the pool or the Lobby Lounge for afternoon tea with friends; enjoy the best lobster bisque at Lobster Bar and Grill or try authentic Canton cuisine at Summer Palace; and if none of those fit your bill, you've still got Nadaman to help with any sushi cravings.
4. Hotel Facilities and Ambience
The moment you walk into Island Shangri-La you'll feel like you've walked into a completely different world - which, I guess, is the reason why it's called Shangri-La. Few people know this, but the name Shangri-La is actually derived from James Hilton's book "Lost Horizon", where he depicts a mysterious and harmonious Heaven on Earth - Shangri-La. Aptly named, the Hotel smells amazing as you walk into the marbled lobby and look up to see the hanging chandeliers whilst calm music is being played in the background.
Take the lifts to the 8th floor to visit the outdoor pool - it's more like stepping into an oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle. The library at the 39th floor will give you plenty of reading material during your stay and the view from Horizon Clubat the top of the hotel will complete your heaven-on-earth experience. If you're looking for paradise, this is it.
Last but not least is perfect location of the Hotel. Located right above Pacific Place Mall and Admiralty Station, Island Shangri-La is truly in the middle of the city. Trains to the most popular tourist districts like Central and Wan Chai are only one stop away, and the nearby bus terminal can take you to virtually anywhere in Hong Kong. Want to go for a quick run? Just ask the Concierge for a jogging map and you'll be exploring the 'back garden' of the hotel in no time. No matter what you need and where you want to go to, Island Shangri-La will help you get there in no time.
So what do I think about Island Shangri-La? Let's just say it's probably one of my favorite hotels in the world ;)
