BCHK HITS 10K!

Thank you so much for the support in getting me to 10K likes on Facebook - seriously, thank you.
I started this page when I was still in high school. At that time I really wanted to showcase another side of photography that Hong Kong kids were used to. There were quite a few photography pages out there already, but most of them only photographed the typical ‘pretty’ girl. I wanted to be different and I wanted to carry out a mission of showing the beautiful side of everyone and proving that absolutely everyone is pretty. I wanted to base my models on people who have not been shot before, or are different from the mainstream ‘pretty’ girl look. I also recognised that not a lot of Asians or coloured people were photographed, so I really wanted to focus on that area. I started off just shooting my friends, then my page grew and grew and picked up more followers and people started messaging me about requested shoots. I was really overwhelmed and excited at the same time. I was so happy that people recognised my work, and at the same time I was learning how to improve my photography.
A few months passed and I was contacted by fashion show organisers asking to shoot. I wasn’t in Hong Kong at that time so I had to turn down a lot of opportunities that I really wanted to pursue. In a turn of events I came back to Hong Kong in 2012 and started Uni a year early, pursuing a 6 year programme in Medicine. I messaged Sophie (pictured above), who messaged me through Tumblr while I was still in boarding school and going through a hard time. Somehow we became really good friends and so I decided that I would shoot her as my first model in Hong Kong . I still remember our first time shooting - it was at the peak and there were lots of bugs and mosquitos, but it was so much fun.
After that my page began to grow even more and soon I started shooting more people in Hong Kong, most of whom I still keep in touch with till today and are really really good friends. I am so thankful for everything.
In 2013 I was approached by GSIS’s Aura and KGV’s Panache Teams to photograph their campaigns. I was so thrilled and happy about all of this and I quickly jumped on both of those projects. Needless to say I met some genuinely great people and made lifelong friendships.
The year went by and I started struggling between photography and school work. I still struggle today. At one point during summer I had a really big break down and wanted to quit everything. I wanted to quit school, to quit my photography, to quit life. Everything was falling apart inside of me and it was certainly not a fun experience. Somehow I found my way - my friends, my family, myself - all helped me to stand back up. I am so thankful for everyone in my life.
In February 2014 I hit 10,000 likes - I guess what I’m trying to say is: life is not easy. life is not simple, and life certainly does not get better. It really only gets harder and harder, but you also grow stronger and bigger. If you want something, work for it. Work day and night and never ever give up. Do what you love and never let it go. Nothing in the world that’s worth having comes easy.
Thank you all again, thank you so so much,
Special thanks to Alice x
